There has been a lot of buzz over the news of conducting CBSE Board Exams for classes 10th and 12th, early in the month of February from 2018 onwards.
Currently, the exams usually commence from March and ends by third week of April. But now, CBSE plans to wind up the examination within a month to enable teachers to evaluate answer sheets effectively by giving them more time.
This has been planned by CBSE as a part of reforms focused on “error –free evaluation”. Recently, This advancement of the examination date is planned keeping in mind the evaluation process which has got highlighted as some students complained about error s in totaling. It is being said that a committee will be set up to put forward systematic changes in the process of evaluation followed by CBSE for board examinations. The revision in the scheme is set to change the process of examination too.
At present, the exam starts from March 1 and usually go on for a month. This also coincides with the start of summer vacations and hence, a number of teachers go on leave during the same duration. Due to this, CBSE appoints ad-hoc and contractual staff for the evaluation that affects quality of checking the answer sheets.
The CBSE Chairman, Mr. R.K Chaturvedi said, “The exam inactions should start around February 15 and we are also planning to complete them within a month.” Otherwise it has been a neck-and-neck affair. By April, vacations begin and the experienced teachers are not available. Therefore, advancing evaluation to mid-March will ensure we have the best teachers checking the answer scripts. Otherwise, in April during vacations, schools offer us only temporary, ad-hoc and newly-appointed teachers for the evaluation exercise as experienced teachers don’t oblige”.
