All about UPSC Examination 2017

Presently there are 7 + 2 = 9 papers to be answered in the main UPSC examination.

Each one of them is of descriptive type. There are two qualifying papers – any modern Indian language of 300 marks and English of 300 marks. The marks of these two papers will not be counted in the merit list of the main examination.

The aspirant is permitted to pick any one language from the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution or English as the medium for writing the mains examination.

General Studies is very important for an IAS aspirant. There are “FOUR” General Studies paper each including 250 Marks with an aggregate of 1000 Marks which are mandatory.

Candidate can choose one optional subject from the list of subjects. Optional subjects include:

It contains two papers each of 300 marks. So the optional paper is of total 600 marks. Applicant is permitted to take up literature as optional subject “without the state of having the same at graduation level.” The extent of the syllabus of optional paper is higher than the four year college education however lower than the master’s level.

Interview/Personality Test is of 275 Marks. Applicant can give inclination of the language in which they may like to be interviewed. UPSC will make arrangements for the translators.

The total marks of the written examination is 1750 Marks.
The Interview/Personality Test will be of 275 marks.
The Grand Total becomes 2025 Marks

It is conducted for recruiting candidates into grade IV vacancies in the Indian Economics Service (IES) and the Indian Statistical Services (IES).
