Students can apply online for the CAT exam through the official CAT website (
Students need to register on the website and create a free account to provide all their details along with a digital passport size photograph to generate an admit card.

Can CAT be taken more than once during the testing window?

A candidate can register to take test only once during the CAT 2016 testing window.
Admit cards and picture ids of the candidates will be checked, and candidate pictures and bio-metric information will also be captured at the test venue.

How much is the test fee for CAT 2016 and how do I pay?

The registration fee is Rs.1600/- for the general and NC-OBC candidates and Rs.800/- for the SC/SC/Person with Disability. The CAT 2016 Registration has started from 8th August 2016 and the last date to fill and submit the application form is 22nd September 2016 through the online mode only via the official website of the CAT 2016 by using their debit or credit card or net banking. Registration fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Do engineers have better chance of getting through CAT?

Cracking CAT totally depends upon the efforts put in by the aspirants but yes, Engineers have a good chance of getting through CAT as they go through four-years training which in turn helps them score good in Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. Logical Reasoning also proves to be a plus point for them.
However, they need to work on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.

What is the format of CAT 2016?

CAT paper will have three sections:

  • Quantitative aptitude
  • Verbal And Reading comprehension
  • Data interpretation and logical Reasoning

However, the number of questions per section could vary and this has been one of the surprise elements in the CAT format. Also, the candidate cannot switch between sections while answering.

What will be the duration of CAT Exam?

CAT exam duration has been increased from 170 mins to 180 mins. 1 hour will be given for each section.

Can CAT be taken from any computer?

No. A candidate will take the test only at designated test venues in about 25 cities across India. The candidates will be allotted any one of their preferred centers after the last date of registration. Detailed information will be provided in the CAT 2016 advertisement.
However, CAT is highly unpredictable; therefore students are required to prepare accordingly.
